About Enterprise & Corporate Commercial Energy

Also known as the mid-market segment, enterprise and corporate business energy represents businesses that have larger commercial energy requirements than that of SMEs, but lower energy usage than that of the Industrial and Commercial (I&C) segment where energy consumption reaches the Giga Watts per year.

Due to the specialised energy usage in this segment, these businesses are catered to by specialist energy suppliers with specialist energy rates. For this reason we've put together this guide to explaining energy contracts for these businesses.

What Is The Mid-Market Segment?

Mid-market, or middle-market, refers to the space between smaller businesses (micro-businesses and SMEs) and the largest sector (Industrial & Commercial). Mid-market businesses are typically specialised in their electricity and gas usage, so tariffs are created bespoke to match each business' usage patterns.

What Is An Enterprise & Corporate Business?

A business that has a larger annual consumption of commercial electricity and commercial gas than an SME, but lower energy consumption than an Industrial & Commercial (I&C) business. These businesses have half-hourly meters, (identified through a "00" on their MPAN and MPRN number) to ensure their electricity usage is billed accurately.

There isn't a defined energy consumption for mid-market or enterprise and corporate businesses, but rather there is a variety of energy usages that each commercial energy supplier will either offer ready-made tariffs through instant prices, or will need to create tariffs based on a businesses energy usage.

Here at Business Electricity Prices, if you have a half-hourly meter, our mid-market team will assist you in finding the best business electricity and business gas deal.

How Does Enterprise & Corporate Energy Comparison Differ from SMEs?

Enterprise and corporate customers' higher energy consumption means the price comparison differs from SMEs by not having live prices available online, since the process of quoting energy prices is highly dependent on each business.

The process of switching to a new supplier is similar: we still need to know your meter details, your energy usage pattern, and your contact details. One key difference is we need to know your energy requirements.

Corporate and enterprise business energy prices are also compiled through a tender and bid process - this is also known as business energy procurement. This process allows for the gas and electricity quotes that suppliers will offer to be bespoke to your business' usage patterns.

Mid-market or enterprise businesses can still compare business energy prices and switch to a new business energy supplier, just like any other business. Business Electricity Prices' team of energy experts will help you find the best possible fixed-rate tariff.

How Does Enterprise & Corporate Energy Comparison Work?

Our procurement team will speak with you about which tariffs are suitable for you, or whether your case needs to be submitted for tendering. If so, we will need some additional energy usage details from you.

If we submit your details to our panel of suppliers for tender, then suppliers will compete for your contract. The tendering process may take a few days, however the prices will be tailored to your business' usage.

In the tendering process, suppliers will bid for your signature. You'll choose the best deal for your business, and our team will handle everything else.

Enterprise & Corporate Customers Business Energy Prices

Commercial energy prices for corporate customers are dependent on wholesale electricity and gas prices, as well as other factors.

Our comparison engine will ask you some questions about your business, and if you're on a half hourly meter, we'll need to call you to give you your instant prices. This is because we will need to download your half-hourly meter data from Elexon to analyse your business' energy usage, and because  we need to know your energy requirements - such as whether you want a renewable tariff or not.

Once we have this data, and once we know your business energy needs, we will arrange a call to give you your instant prices from our panel of suppliers.

If we see that our instant prices are not competitive for your usage patterns, we will present you the option of submitting your case to tender.

For this, again, we'll need to know your energy preferences (whether you want renewable energy or any other energy needs). We'll also need you to sign a Letter of Authority allowing us to contact supplier son your behalf - this is standard procedure when working with business energy brokers or other TPIs.

At this stage, our panel of mid-market specialist energy suppliers will usage your energy usage patterns and your energy requirements to create a bespoke commercial energy tariff to bid for your contract. We will send you your options to compare and choose the right deal for your business.
